Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • What is meant by "Unlimited Attended Time"?

Unlimited Attended Time means just that. You can browse the web, chat or talk to friends and family, or whatever you do on the Internet as long as you want to, under one condition... You need to be in front of your computer and be actively engaged in doing something on the Internet. If you leave your computer and go shopping or to work or whatever.. then you are not "attending" the computer so you need to disconnect from Internet Texas. The only exception to this is, if you are downloading a large file and do not want to sit there for 5 hours while it downloads... then we understand. Get the file, but disconnect after the file is downloaded unless you are in front of the computer...

  • Internet Texas does apply a 15-30 minute idle-timer and a 8-10 hour session timer on all non-dedicated dialup accounts.  The idle-timer will disconnect you if your computer does not transmit or receive something from the Internet in the allowed time.  The session-timer will disconnect you at the time that you have reached the time that is specified, which will be somewhere between 8 and 10 hours.  If you still need to do something on the Internet then just reconnect!

  • If you want to be connected 24hrs a day 7 days a week then give us a call and we will provide you pricing for your connection. Please check our Rates page for payment plans and options including dedicated lines from 56k and up are available.

  • Do you allow resale?

You can resell anything on YOUR computer system only if you are paying for a dedicated connection and have arranged to resell your connection to Internet Texas, but you can't resell anything on Internet Texas's system. Web page areas on our systems are for a single customer and can not be resold. Same with mail, ftp, telnet, and so on. But if you have a web/mail/whatever server at your location, AND you are paying us for a dedicated connection and have arranged to resell the connection then you may resell what is on your system. If you wish to resell our connection then give us a call and we can discuss the available options.

  • Do you include the InterNIC domain name        registration fees in any of your plans?

Our fees include the setup of your domain, DNS, FTP, Email addresses and web storage space. You are responsible for the Internic Fee.

Our Web page plans include Primary and Secondary Domain Name System (DNS) service for your domain.

If you have a dial-up dedicated connection plan, we'll provide primary and secondary DNS service for your domain for a small setup fee.

  • Do you allow users to write their own CGI's?

Here's the deal on CGI's. They are a massive security problem because each CGI executed is under the same uid/gid and can cause serious destruction on other user's files if written incorrectly. You can write the CGI, but we must see the source code and we must know beyond any doubt that it will not be a security problem. If we find a good way to prevent people from having their CGI's destroy other people's work, we'll allow you at that time to install your own. One other point, your CGI can't be a resource hog. You have to remember that your sharing the CPU/Memory/Bandwidth resources with other users.

  • Do you carry the most complete up-to-date     USENET NetNews?

We subscribe to a news service. The company that we subscribe to maintains an above-average News system but we cannot guarantee that they carry all newsgroups, nor that any one newsgroup contains all the latest articles. If you find someone who claims they carry it all, they are not being honest with you.

USENET is not a Central News Server that everyone connects to -- it's a network of thousands of computers that agree to exchange news articles with one another. Each of these computers has users who post articles. These articles are passed on to other computers where they may be dropped due to network or system problems, or because some site along the way has decided to not receive or forward the articles for whatever reason. With as many news messages that go through the Internet everyday it is a wonder that the system even works. To carry 3-4 days of USENET messages requires approximately 20-30 gigabytes of hard drive storage.

  • What computers do you support?

We will help you set up whatever computer you have. We are serious when we say we support our customers. We provide Microsoft Internet Explorer for our customers and while we would rather that you use our product we will do our best to assist you with Netscape also. However, several features that are now or will be available for our customers are only supported by Internet Explorer. We really do want you to have a positive experience and we'll do what we can to make this happen.

  • What is your policy on busy signals?

We hate them. We don't want them and we're sure customers don't want them either! Although we do not promise NO busy signals, we will do our best to keep ahead of the growth curve and have plenty of lines available.

  • How loaded is your network?

We constantly monitor our network. We will not let our network load become a problem.  As we grow we will add additional bandwidth to handle the traffic.
